Once there, parking was easy (and free!) -- just follow the road up to the lot. The start of the tower path begins from there.

The hike itself was fairly easy. The path was even, but with a steady incline. There was plenty of tree coverage to keep the June temperature moderate. As the path evened out at the top, there were nice clearings revealing expansive views of rolling hills and farmland for miles. If you wait a bit, you might even see the elusive 747 flying in its natural habitat! We were also lucky enough to find some wild strawberries, although there were very tiny!

The path eventually leads to Heublein Tower, which offers a scenic 360 degree view. It's worth mentioning that the building does have "hours of operation" (as noted on the park's CT DEEP page). We arrived at 4:50 PM and the attendants kindly informed us that we had about ten minutes before the tower closed!

A hike and ice cream blog would not be complete without ice cream! Less than ten minutes away from Talcott Mountain is Bloom Hill Farm in Bloomfield, CT. One of their main draws is homemade ice cream!

The sign says it all! Bloom Hill Farms is hard to miss! |
It was delicious and reasonably priced (one regular ice cream sundae and one regular ice cream cost $9.50). Bloom Hill Farm even offered a unique dining bonus -- peacocks and alpacas!

For a summer Friday, hiking Talcott Mountain and visiting Bloom Hill Farm for a delicious treat amounted to nothing short of magical! Both were definitely worth visiting.
